On April 3-5, 2009, the Perrysburg Concert Band and Wind Ensemble traveled to Chicago, Illinois, to perform in the National Adjudicators Invitational.  Each group performed three musical selections for three adjudicators: Tom Dvorak, director of bands at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Jim Warrick, director of jazz studies at New Trier High School, Winnetka, Illinois; and David Shaffer, composer and arranger from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.  Participating ensembles included eight bands, one string orchestra, two jazz bands and four choirs which traveled from Arlington, TN, Arlington, TX, Celina, TX, Hartford, WI, Manlius, NY, Oakdale, MN, Tulsa, OK, and Omaha, NE.

The Concert Band earned an Excellent rating and the Wind Ensemble earned a Superior rating.  The adjudicators were very complimentary of the Wind Ensemble's performance, giving them the top score of the fifteen performing ensembles which awarded them the Grand Champion trophy.  In addition, the Wind Ensemble percussionists received the judge’s award for outstanding percussion section of the festival and flautist Elizabeth Leimkuehler received one of four outstanding soloist citations given for the festival.  Congratulations on this outstanding national honor!
