Scott Schleuter joined the faculty at Perrysburg High School as Director of Bands in the fall of 2004. He is responsible for coordinating all band activities and conducts the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, assists with the Concert Band and Basketball Pep Band, and teaches Music Theory I and AP Music
Theory
Mr. Schleuter received his Bachelor of Music Education degree and Master of Music in conducting from Indiana University, Bloomington, where he studied conducting with professors Ray Cramer and Stephen W. Pratt and clarinet with Howard Klug. While at I.U., he performed in the Philharmonic Orchestra and Wind Ensemble on clarinet, and the 300-member Marching Hundred for four years on alto saxophone, where he served on the undergraduate staff for two years and was selected as the Outstanding Band Member in 1994. He also was a cast member in the summer musical and opera productions of Hello Dolly, Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof, and Rigoletto. In 1994, he received the Frederick C. Ebbs Memorial Scholarship in recognition of outstanding contribution to the music education department and the Jacobs School of Music. During graduate school, he was concertmaster of the Wind Ensemble during their sixteen-day tour of Japan in 2000, served on the graduate staff for the Marching Hundred, and
was the manager of the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic for 2000 and 2001.
Prior to his arrival in Perrysburg, Mr. Schleuter served as Visiting Assistant Professor, Assistant Director of Bands from 2002-2003 and Interim Director of Bands from 2003-2004 at The University of Toledo. He also served as Assistant Director of Bands at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Illinois from 2001-2002, where the marching band participated in the 2002 London New Year's Parade, graduate conductor and associate instructor at Indiana University from 1999-2001, and Assistant Director of Bands at Bloomington High School North in Bloomington, Indiana, from 1995-1999, where the marching band participated in the 1999 Tournament of Roses Parade.
Mr. Schleuter has over 20 years of experience performing with and conducting bands and orchestras. He was principal clarinet with the Bloomington Pops Orchestra and the Bloomington Symphony, and has been a guest soloist with several high school bands and the Indiana University Concert Band. As a conductor, Mr. Schleuter has led his groups in performances in California, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, Canada, England, and Japan. Since 2002, he has been a faculty member with the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic, directing clarinet/bass clarinet sectionals, orchestra winds sectionals, and performing with the faculty woodwind quintet. He was also a staff member for the 2009 Ohio Ambassadors of Music European
Tour, an honor group of high school students from across Ohio who traveled to England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany and Greece.
Mr. Schleuter is currently President-Elect of O.M.E.A. District 1 and has served as chair for the O.M.E.A. District 1 East Solo & Ensemble Contest since 2006. He has also served as an adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association Solo & Ensemble Contest. He presented a clinic titled "The Musical Language - A Sound Approach for Better Musical Understanding" at the 2010 O.M.E.A. State Conference. His biography was selected for Who’s Who in America (2004), Who's Who of Emerging Leaders (2007), Who's Who in American Education (2007 & 2008), and Who's Who Among America's Teachers (2007). He is a member of the Ohio Music Education Association and Music Educators National Conference.
KRAIG BENTLEY joined the faculty at Perrysburg High School as Assistant Director of Bands in the fall of 2006. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Toledo and is currently working on a masters
degree in administration at the University of Toledo. Mr. Bentley currently conducts the Concert Band, 8th Grade Band, Basketball Pep Band and assists with the Symphonic Band, Marching Band and two sections of 6th and 7th grade band at Perrysburg Junior High.
During the past 2 years at Perrysburg, the Concert Band has received excellent ratings for two consecutive years in OMEA competition. The band has also received excellent ratings at the Kings Island Festival and the National Adjudicators Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2007, he was part of a music program that was selected as one of the “Best 100 communities for Music Education in America for 2007”
While a student at the University of Toledo, Mr. Bentley was the principal trombone for the UT wind ensemble and orchestra for all four years. He was the drum major for the Rocket Marching Band the last two years of his college career and in 2002, received the outstanding band member award. In 2003, Mr. Bentley traveled with The University of Toledo Rocket Marching Band to Sasebo City, Japan and performed 30 shows at the Huis Ten Bosch theme park.
Prior to his arrival in Perrysburg, Mr. Bentley taught general music and beginning and junior high bands in the Washington Local School District. He completed his student teaching at Sylvania Northview High School during the fall semester of 2005. He is a member of the Ohio Music Education Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
Doug Logston - Percussion Instructor
Doug Logston attended Bowling Green State University where he majored in music education with dual emphasis in euphonium and percussion studies. He has been a pageantry arts consultant, advising in areas of program analysis and long-range strategic planning to instruction, leadership, and design concepts. Doug served as executive director of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, Inc. from Rockford/Loves Park, Illinois, and during his tenure, the Phantom Regiment received its first DCI World Championship. Groups that Doug has worked with include the 1993 Bands of America Indoor Percussion Champions, University of Kentucky Indoor Drumline, three-time BOA Grand National Champion Plymouth-Canton Marching Band from Plymouth, MI, as well as the three time Japanese National Champion Aimachi Marching Band
from Nagoya, Japan.
Andrea Whiting - Majorette Advisor
In 2002, Andrea Whiting joined Perrysburg High School's marching band staff as the majorette coach Andrea is a certified baton twirling teacher and judge through Twirling Unlimited. Twirling Unlimited, incorporated in 1981, is a non-profit organization of twirling teachers and judges. Andrea has been the director of the Perrysburg Twirling Sophisticates Marching Corps. and the competition team, Team Sophisticate, for 15 years. Many of her students have won state, regional and national championships as team and solo twirlers. In addition, since 2000, Andrea has
had many students invited to twirl at Disneyworld as part of the Showcase of Champions at the Magic Kingdom and march in the Magical Moments Parade on Main Street, USA. Along with coaching the Perrysburg majorettes Andrea also works with the St. Johns and Lake High school's feature twirlers.
